Timothy Mosher

Timothy Mosher, MD, MS, is a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Pediatrics at the Penn State College of Medicine, holding the Kenneth L. Miller Chair. He serves as Physician Lead of Imaging Services for Penn State Health and is affiliated with the Penn State Neuroscience Institute. His expertise spans quantitative MRI biomarkers for osteoarthritis and cartilage evaluation, as well as reducing diagnostic errors in radiology through neurocognitive research. Dr. Mosher also focuses on medical education, developing active learning programs to improve diagnostic accuracy and critical thinking.

Education includes a BS in Chemistry from Ursinus College, MS in Chemistry from the University of Virginia, MD from Penn State College of Medicine, and postdoctoral training in NMR Research. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency and clinical MRI fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Professional roles include Physician Advisor at the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority and Board Member of the Society for Improving Diagnosis in Medicine.

Research interests emphasize cartilage T2 mapping for early osteoarthritis diagnosis and neurocognitive factors in perceptual errors. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to quality education and good health. Notable projects include an NIH-funded study on MRI T2 mapping. Recent publications address enterprise radiology dashboards, clinical decision support, and imaging protocols in orthopedic trauma.

Dr. Mosher’s grants and awards include leadership in imaging services and patient safety initiatives. He actively lectures on sports medicine imaging and osteoarthritis, promoting diagnostic excellence through interdisciplinary collaboration.
