Timothy Horiuchi

Dr. Timothy Horiuchi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, affiliated with The Institute for Systems Research, Maryland Robotics Center, Brain and Behavior Institute, and Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices. He leads the Computational Sensorimotor Laboratory (CSSL) and contributes to the Microelectronics at Maryland group. His research bridges computational neuroscience and neuromorphic VLSI design, focusing on sensorimotor systems inspired by biological mechanisms like bat echolocation.

Education: B.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech (1989, 1997), followed by postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University. Industrial experience includes roles at Hughes Aircraft, Boeing, IBM, HP, and Tanner Research.

Research interests include bio-inspired neuromorphic systems, acoustic signal processing, mobile robotics, and neural circuit modeling.
