Timothy Gwyn Bunnell

Tim Bunnell is Professor in the Department of Geography and Director of the Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore. As a human geographer, his research focuses on urban development in Southeast Asia and global urban connections, with major publications examining cities like Kuala Lumpur and Liverpool through historical and contemporary lenses.

His current research includes a global comparative study of smart city development (collaborating with universities in Canada and Singapore) and comparative analysis of new administrative capital cities in Southeast Asia including Putrajaya and Indonesia's planned Nusantara. Bunnell employs theoretical frameworks that examine relations between innovation, urban change, and regional studies.

He currently advises six doctoral students working on projects related to urban transformation in Asian contexts. His teaching portfolio spans cultural geography, urban theory, and research methodologies at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
