Timothy Fulton is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of Education for Undergraduate Studies at Queen Mary University of London's School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. He serves as Programme Director for the Biomedical Sciences Programme, overseeing its organization and management. His academic roles also include membership in Senate, representing the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Dr. Fulton has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2024 Faculty of Science and Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2023 SBBS Excellence in Education Award.
His research focuses on understanding how cells determine their positions within developing tissues, using plant (Arabidopsis) and vertebrate (zebrafish) models. Key areas include stomatal patterning for drought-resistant crops, somitogenesis, gastrulation, and the interplay between morphogenesis and pattern formation. He employs advanced microscopy techniques and embryological approaches.
Teaching responsibilities include modules such as Genetics (BMD164), Practical Biology (BIO192), and Biomedical Physiology (BMD121). He is actively involved in curriculum development and inter-faculty collaboration through the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences-Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Joint Executive.
Awards include recognition for teaching excellence and shortlistings for prestigious teaching prizes. His research portfolio spans developmental biology, genetics, and systems biology, with notable contributions to understanding cell movement-driven patterning and gene regulatory networks.
