- Position: Assistant Professor-in-Residence
Dr. Chang's research focuses on incorporating genomics, electronic health records, and biomedical informatics to realize precision medicine for neurodegenerative diseases. His laboratory investigates genetic risk factors in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Alzheimer's disease, neurodegenerative disease progression using EHR data, clinical decision support tools, and genetics in diverse populations. He has developed a dementia screening toolkit for primary care settings in diverse populations.
His recent publications demonstrate trends in applying computational methods to understand neurodegenerative diseases through genetic analysis, EHR mining, and network biology approaches. His work increasingly focuses on health equity and addressing underrepresented populations in dementia research.
- Augustus S. Rose Chair in Neurology (2023)
- Director of UCLA California Alzheimer's Disease Center (2022)
- California Department of Public Health grant for dementia screening toolkit (2022)
Dr. Chang advises several graduate students and leads a research team including a project manager, bioinformaticians, genetic counselors, and programmer analysts. His laboratory collaborates extensively with other researchers at UCLA and beyond. Current research projects include identifying rare genetic risk variants in Alzheimer's disease and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, using EHRs to study disease progression in diverse populations, and developing clinical decision support tools.
His laboratory, comprised of computational researchers with wet lab collaborations, focuses on translating genomic and informatics discoveries into clinical applications for neurodegenerative diseases.
