Prof. Timo Richarz is a Professor of Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, since 2019. He holds a LOEWE-Start-Professur (2022) and leads projects in the ERC Starting Grant MotLang (2021) and Collaborative Research Center GAUS. His research focuses on arithmetic geometry, the Langlands program, and geometric representation theory, with contributions to Schubert varieties, local models, and motivic Satake equivalence.
- Education: Diploma/PhD from Bonn University (2006-2014), advised by Michael Rapoport.
Research Interests: Algebraic Geometry (Schubert varieties, local models), Number Theory (Langlands program), and Geometric Representation Theory. He collaborates extensively, organizing conferences like the 2025 Geometry and Representation Theory around the Langlands Programs and Motives and Arithmetic Geometry.
Notable Grants: ERC Starting Grant (€2.5M), LOEWE funding (€1.5M), and DFG’s SFB GAUS. His work bridges pure mathematics with applications in cybersecurity via elliptic curve cryptography.
- Awards: ERC Starting Grant (2021), LOEWE-Start-Professur (2022).
Advising: Supervises PhD candidates like Paul Siemon and Rızacan Çiloğlu, along with master’s and bachelor’s students. Hosts postdocs including Manuel Müller and Chirantan Chowdhury.
Labs/Teams: Core member of the GAUS SFB and MotLang ERC projects, collaborating with institutions like Université Clermont via the RedLang project.
