Professor Tim Waters is a Professor of Vibration Engineering at the University of Southampton's Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), part of the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment. As Head of Department, he leads research in structural vibration mitigation and exploitation. His work spans aerospace dynamics, structural health monitoring, and drone-based medical logistics.
Education: BSc Mathematics (University of Bristol), PhD in Aerospace Structural Modeling (University of Bristol, funded by British Aerospace). Professional Experience: Research Fellow at ISVR since 1998, with prior industry experience at British Aerospace/Airbus in aircraft structure modeling.
Research focuses on wave propagation in structures, vibration control systems, and applications like aircraft de-icing and biomedical cargo transport. Recent projects include the Solent Future Transport Zone (2020-2024) for sustainable urban logistics and EPSRC-funded studies on singing buildings and acoustic biofouling control.
Key achievements include Vice Chancellor's Teaching Award (2015) and editorial board membership for the Journal Vibration. Active in international collaborations, presenting at institutions like Pennsylvania State University and University of Ferrara.
