Tim Maxwell

Tim Maxwell is a Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Psychology Department at Hendrix College. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, an M.T.S. from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, and a B.A. from Hendrix College. His clinical training includes work in juvenile detention facilities, state hospitals, rehab clinics for chronic low back pain patients, and child psychiatry clinics. His research focuses on cognitive predictors of depression in chronic pain patients and the psychology of evil, including group violence and individual psychopathy. He teaches courses such as the Psychology of Evil, Abnormal Psychology, and Psychological Assessment.

Maxwell is the namesake of the Timothy D. Maxwell Award for Citizenship in Psychology, recognizing departmental civic engagement. His professional interests bridge clinical psychology with ethical and social responsibility, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to mental health. He maintains personal passions for football, crime fiction, and psychological literature.
