معرفی
Prof. Tim Magnus is the Director of the Department of Neurology at the University of Hamburg’s Faculty of Medicine, affiliated with the UKE (Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf). His research focuses on stroke mechanisms, neuroimmunology, and neuroprotection, with a particular emphasis on understanding immune responses and inflammatory pathways in cerebral ischemia and neurodegenerative disorders. He leads a team investigating therapeutic strategies targeting purinergic receptors (e.g., P2X7), extracellular vesicles, and nanobody-based treatments to mitigate stroke damage.
Key contributions include studies on γδ T cells’ role in post-stroke neurodegeneration, IL-17A inhibition for improved stroke outcomes, and the protective effects of intravenous immunoglobulins. His work bridges basic science and clinical practice, addressing translational challenges in neurology. Magnus also collaborates on international projects, such as the WAKE-UP trial evaluating thrombolysis efficacy.
Publications highlight advancements in cerebral perfusion imaging (e.g., magnetic particle imaging), biomarker discovery (e.g., neurofilament light chain), and interdisciplinary approaches to primary angiitis of the central nervous system (PACNS). His academic leadership includes roles in the European Liquid Biopsy Society and mentoring in translational neuroscience.
