Dr. Tim Karis is a Researcher and Managing Director of Science & Research at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg at Ruhr University Bochum's Centre for Religious Studies. His work focuses on Religion and Media, particularly the intersection of Religious Pluralism, Media Regulation, and Discourse Theory. He coordinates projects on religious diversity in media and contributes to debates on public broadcasting policies in Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K.
- Education: PhD in Communication Sciences (Media Studies), Modern History, and Public Law from the University of Münster and Amsterdam
His research explores media portrayals of Islam, secularism in broadcasting, and institutional frameworks for religious pluralism. Recent projects analyze how metaphors shape religious discourse, particularly in digital and sci-fi contexts. He has also contributed to comparative studies on secularism in the U.K. and Nepal.
