Tim Bedding

Professor Tim Bedding is a leading astrophysicist at the University of Sydney's School of Physics within the Faculty of Science. He earned his BSc (Hons) and PhD in astrophysics from the same institution. His career includes a fellowship at the European Southern Observatory (Germany) and a return to Sydney as a lecturer in 1995, later becoming Professor in 2007. He served as Head of the School of Physics from 2012 to 2018. His research focuses on asteroseismology—using stellar oscillations to study stars—and he has contributed to exoplanet studies and stellar structure analysis.

Bedding has received the University of Sydney's Excellence in Teaching Award, reflecting his dedication to education. His work spans collaborations with major observatories and missions like TESS and Kepler. Notable grants include an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship (2022) and a Discovery Project (2017) on asteroseismology and exoplanets.

His research students investigate topics like δ Scuti stars, red giants, and binary systems. Bedding's publications explore asteroseismic techniques, stellar oscillations, and the application of observational data to model stellar interiors and evolution.
