Tilo Amhoff is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton’s School of Arch, Tech and Eng, affiliated with the Radical Methodologies (RaM) Research Excellence Group and the Centre for Design History. His research focuses on the social, economic, and political conditions shaping architectural production, regulatory frameworks, and the interplay between intellectual planning and manual construction.
Education:
- PhD (2017): 'The making of plans: Germany, 1858-1933' from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
- Masters (2004): 'Adapting the architect’s products to capitalist building production' from Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
- Masters (2001): 'New spatial and programmatic strategy for Venice Biennale' from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
His research interests include Marxist architectural history, legal/technical documents in architecture, and the transformation of building contracts. He currently chairs the Architectural Humanities Research Association’s Steering Group and served as an External Examiner at University of the Arts London (2018-2021). His work bridges historical analysis with critical theory, examining topics like decolonization in education, student-led activism, and the socio-economic contexts of architectural practices.
