Till Stellino is a researcher and lecturer in Italian and Romance Linguistics at the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Heidelberg. He has served as an academic staff member at the Romance Department since 2007 and as Assistant to the Management since the winter semester 2014/15. His work encompasses research, teaching, and administrative responsibilities within the department.
Dr. Stellino's primary research interests focus on the sociolinguistics of contemporary Italian, with particular attention to variational dynamics, the relationship between language and social change, historical sociolinguistics, and the linguistic perspective of Italian popular music. His work also examines linguistic and cultural contact between Italo- and Gallo-Romania, the philosophy of language from a linguistic perspective, and points of contact between linguistics and sociology (particularly Bourdieu and Foucault). He investigates language and social inequality, prestige and stigma phenomena, discourse analysis related to language and power, the transition from Latin to Romance languages, and the history of Romance linguistics.
His scholarly output demonstrates a strong focus on the interplay between language, culture, and economic practices, particularly in the wine industry of Southern Italy. His publications analyze how traditional dialects are strategically employed in marketing to convey authenticity and territorial connection, reflecting broader patterns of linguistic glocalization.
