Tijmen den Oudendammer

Tijmen den Oudendammer serves as a Teacher and Researcher at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, holding dual roles as Community Director of the Community of Practice Plastic and Coordinator of the Plastic-Free Delta Living Lab. He is formally affiliated with the Water & Climate research group under the Sustainable Delta initiative, driving collaborative efforts to address plastic pollution challenges in delta ecosystems.

His research focuses on practical environmental solutions for plastic contamination, with core expertise in microplastic monitoring systems, plastic capture technologies, and delta-specific pollution mitigation. Current projects include the Rhine-Meuse PLASTIVAL initiative for plastic waste valorization, development of a riverine capture system at RDM (Rotterdam Docklands), and comprehensive microplastic assessment programs targeting pollution sources in the Rhine-Meuse delta region.

Through the Plastic-Free Delta Living Lab framework, he facilitates cross-sector knowledge exchange between academic, industrial, governmental, and community stakeholders. His approach emphasizes co-creation of scalable interventions that bridge scientific research with real-world implementation, prioritizing community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve measurable reductions in plastic leakage into aquatic environments.
