Dr. Tianbo Liu is the A. Schulman Professor in the Department of Polymer Science at the University of Akron, part of the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. His research focuses on the fundamental physical chemistry of complex solution systems, including macroions, inorganic-organic hybrids, and biomacromolecules. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stony Brook University (1999) and has held academic roles at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Lehigh University before joining Akron in 2013.
Education:
- B.S., Chemistry, Peking University (1994)
- Ph.D., Chemistry, Stony Brook University (1999)
Research Interests: Explores self-assembly mechanisms of macroions, electrostatic interactions in solution, and applications in advanced materials. Notable areas include nanosheet formation from metal-organic cages, chiral discrimination in assemblies, and phase transitions in cluster solutions.
Labs: Located in Rooms 1108-1113, Goodyear Polymer Building, focusing on experimental and theoretical studies of solution-phase physical chemistry.
