معرفی
Prof. Thorsten Hugel is a Full Professor of Single Molecule Spectroscopy at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, University of Freiburg. He leads research in molecular machines, friction, and lubrication, focusing on single-molecule techniques like AFM and FRET. His work spans biophysical chemistry, polymer adhesion, and biomedical materials, with applications in osteoarthritis detection and hydrogel design. He chairs livMatS projects on adaptive materials and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams.
Research Interests:
- Molecular Machines: Investigating single-molecule mechanics and energy transduction.
- Friction/Lubrication: Analyzing surface interactions and superlubricity in biological systems.
- Biomedical Materials: Developing hydrogels and sensors for early disease detection.
Publications reflect a focus on single-molecule dynamics, polymer mechanics, and biomedical applications. Key projects include DFG-funded livMatS initiatives on adaptive materials and nanogenerators. Current doctoral advisees include Christiane Wenzel, Dr. Qiwei Hu, and Dr. Max Lallemang.
Infrastructure: Leads IDEASfactory@FIT for material innovation and collaborates with the Master Lab program. Active in outreach via conferences and workshops.
