Thorsten Becker is a Shell Foundation Distinguished Chair in Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin since 2016. He previously held positions as Assistant (2004-2009), Associate (2009-2012), and Professor of Earth Sciences (2012-2016) at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on geodynamic processes, including mantle convection, subduction dynamics, and lithosphere-mantle interactions.
- Visiting Professor at Universitá di Roma TRE (2012), University of Tokyo (2010), and Princeton University (2008)
His scientific contributions have been recognized through election to the Academia Europaea (2021), AGU fellowship (2015), and prestigious awards like the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award (2013). Becker also delivered the C. F. Gauss lecture series in 2008.
