Dr. Thorna Humphries is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University's College of Science, Engineering and Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder and previously worked as a software engineer at Wang Laboratories where she received a patent for operating system enhancements.
Her research focuses on computer science education methodologies, persistent object systems for data management, software engineering practices for secure medical applications, pervasive computing systems, and information assurance. She maintains active research in developing security frameworks for healthcare systems and educational pedagogy.
Dr. Humphries teaches courses including Computer Programming II, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Robotics, and Secure Software Development. She serves as Secretary for the Association for Computer/Information Sciences and Engineering Departments at Minority Institutions (ADMI) and is affiliated with NSU's Information Assurance Research, Education, and Development Institute (IA-REDI).
