Dr. Thorben Simonsen is an Assistant Professor at IT University of Copenhagen specializing in how digitalization transforms care practices, organizational accountability, and welfare provision through spatial arrangements. Building on his PhD research about healing architecture in psychiatric settings, he investigates 'digital spaces' as frameworks for understanding technology-mediated care environments.
His research examines:
- Spatial organization of psychiatric practice
- Digital transformation of healthcare environments
- Relationships between design, technology, and organizational practices
- Ethnographic approaches to institutional spaces
Dr. Simonsen teaches courses on IT and Work Design at the undergraduate level and Organizational Change for the Digital Innovation and Management MSc program. His extensive publication record includes 15 recent scholarly articles examining how digital and physical spaces reconfigure care practices.
His PhD dissertation The Spatial Organization of Psychiatric Practice (Copenhagen Business School, 2020) received institutional recognition. Current research projects investigate digital placemaking in healthcare and technology-mediated welfare services.
