Thor Edvardsen

Thor Edvardsen is a Professor II in the Department of Cardiology at the University of Oslo’s Faculty of Medicine. He serves as President of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI, 2018–2020) and directs the Center for Cardiological Innovation, a Center for Research-based Innovation funded by the Norwegian Research Council (2011–2019). His roles include editorial board memberships for journals like European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging and JACC Imaging.

Research interests focus on echocardiography, cardiac imaging technologies, myocardial function, and clinical applications in cardiovascular disease. Notable contributions include studies on left ventricular strain analysis, artificial intelligence in imaging, and outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Recent articles highlight advancements in deep learning for strain measurements, risk stratification via echocardiography, and mechanisms of arrhythmias in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His work bridges clinical practice and innovation, with a focus on improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

Thor Edvardsen leads the Center for Cardiological Innovation, driving multidisciplinary research in cardiovascular imaging and device development. His research also addresses exercise-cardiac interactions in athletes and the impact of anabolic-androgenic steroids on myocardial pathology.
