Thomas Stopka is a Professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, with additional appointments in Community Health, Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning, and Tisch College. His research integrates substance use disorder, opioid overdose, and infectious diseases (HCV, HIV, STIs) using geographic information systems (GIS), spatial epidemiology, qualitative methods, and biostatistics.

He co-chairs the Tufts Equity in Health, Wealth, and Civic Engagement Research Cluster and teaches GIS for Public Health and research methods courses.
Scientific awards and grants include NIH- and CDC-funded studies like the HEALing Communities Study and DISCERNNE, as well as NSF support for large-scale graphical models. His research emphasizes community-engaged interventions to address health disparities among marginalized populations.
