Dr. Thomas Sinclair is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University, affiliated with the College of Science. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University (2011) and a BS in Mathematics from IUPUI (2006). His research focuses on von Neumann algebras, deformation/rigidity theory, geometric group theory, and model theory of operator algebras, supported by an NSF grant (DMS-2055155). Sinclair has mentored numerous students, including PhD candidates and undergraduate researchers, many of whom have pursued academic or industry roles. He contributes to Purdue’s academic community through teaching courses like Functional Analysis and Complex Analysis, and co-leads initiatives such as the Purdue Experimental Math Lab. His work spans collaborations on topics including Lipschitz geometry, quantum information theory, and operator system axiomatization.
- Education: PhD (Vanderbilt 2011), BS (IUPUI 2006)
Research Interests:
- Von Neumann Algebras
- Deformation/Rigidity Theory
- Geometric Group Theory
- Model Theory of Metric Structures
Recent research explores applications of operator algebras to quantum information and structural properties of group von Neumann algebras. His publications address foundational topics like injective envelopes, Lipschitz geometry, and rigidity phenomena. Grants support investigations into noncommutative metric structures and operator system properties.
