معرفی
Dr. Thomas Schmidt is a Group Leader at the Spectro-Microscopy Research Group within the Interface Science Department at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, Germany. His research focuses on utilizing advanced spectro-microscopic techniques to study surface processes and catalytic reactions at the nanoscale.
Dr. Schmidt's primary research interests lie in Surface Science and Catalysis, with particular emphasis on the preparation and modification of thin oxide films on metal supports and metal nanoparticles on oxides. His work investigates the structural, electronic, and chemical properties of these systems using the SMART spectro-microscope at BESSY II, which combines Low Energy Electron Microscopy (LEEM) and Photo-Emission Electron Microscopy (PEEM) capabilities. This aberration-corrected instrument enables real-time observations of surface processes like oxidation, structure formation, or chemical reactions.
Analysis of Dr. Schmidt's recent publications reveals a strong focus on in situ characterization of catalytic materials and surface processes. His work spans multiple areas including nanocatalysts for industrial applications, oxide thin films with tailored properties, and surface reactions under realistic conditions. The interdisciplinary nature of his research connects materials science, physical chemistry, and surface physics to address fundamental questions in catalysis and surface science.
