Dr Thomas Peck is a Lecturer in Law at Lancaster University Law School with expertise in international human rights law, particularly focusing on the right to health and business and human rights. He is actively engaged with multiple research centers including the Centre for International Law and Human Rights, Centre for Law and Society, and the FASS Health Hub.
Dr Peck's educational background includes a Law (International) LLB, International Human Rights Law LLM, Social Research MA, and he holds Associate Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
His research critically examines how pharmaceutical companies can be held accountable under international human rights law for restricting access to essential medicines through unjustified pricing practices. He employs interdisciplinary methodological approaches combining socio-legal and sociological research methods to analyze the intersection of human rights frameworks and healthcare access. His scholarly work demonstrates consistent focus on the tension between intellectual property rights and human rights obligations in global health contexts.
Dr Peck's publications reveal a strong thematic coherence around access to medicines, pharmaceutical accountability, and the application of human rights frameworks to healthcare systems. His work spans theoretical analysis, methodological contributions, and practical policy engagement with international bodies.
He supervises postgraduate research students and has received funding from the NWSSDTP (ESRC) through a 1+3 PhD Scholarship. Dr Peck actively influences policy through contributions to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Council of Europe on matters related to pharmaceutical pricing and access to medicines.
