Thomas Olesen

Thomas Olesen is a Professor at the Department of Political Science, Aarhus University. As of February 2025, he will serve as head of the Center for University Studies in Journalism. His research focuses on democratic critique, whistleblowing, activism, and media communication. Key areas include the roles of journalists, whistleblowers, and activists in shaping democratic public spheres.

He teaches political sociology at undergraduate and graduate levels and supervises PhD students in his research domains. His work spans projects like the analysis of Danish social movements (1960–2020) and the study of democratic public sphere challenges. Recent projects include exploring whistleblowing dynamics in digitalized societies and the socio-political impact of iconic figures like Greta Thunberg.
