Thomas List

Univ.-Prof. Mag. Thomas List is a full-time Professor of Early Music and Recorder at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien (MUK), Faculty of Music, since September 2009. His expertise spans Baroque and historical performance practices, with a focus on recorder and chamber music. He maintains a dual teaching role, also instructing at the Freie Musikschule Wien since 2003.

• Education: Concert performance and instrumental pedagogy under Hans-Maria Kneihs (MUK, distinction awards) and advanced studies with Pedro Memelsdorff at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

Research interests emphasize early music performance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and pedagogical innovation. His career includes prominent performances with ensembles like Ensemble Mikado, B-Five, and B’Rock across festivals such as Festival van Vlaanderen (Brugge) and Laus Polyphoniae (Antwerp). He has recorded CDs with ORF, Gramola, Cavalli, and Ramée labels, showcasing works from the Baroque and Renaissance eras.

• Awards: Multiple first prizes in prestigious competitions, including IYAP-EM (Antwerp) and Gradus ad Parnassum (Blockflöte category).

Collaborations with contemporary composers like Maja Osojnik and Johannes Kretz highlight his commitment to bridging historical and modern musical expressions.
