Dr. Thomas Lebzelter is an Astrophysicist and Teacher affiliated with the Department of Astrophysics at the University of Vienna. He concurrently teaches Physics at the Wienerwaldgymnasium in Lower Austria. His primary research focuses on Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars, Stellar Abundances, and Mass Loss Mechanisms, with significant contributions to near-infrared spectroscopic studies. He leads projects like the CRIRES-POP spectral library and analyzes Long Period Variables with Gaia data.
Research Interests
- Evolution and nucleosynthesis of AGB stars
- Stellar pulsation dynamics
- Impact of evolved stars on galactic chemical evolution
- High-resolution infrared spectroscopy techniques
His professional activities bridge academic research and public outreach, evidenced by his participation in workshops and public lectures. Collaborative efforts include international projects at observatories like Kitt Peak and the Very Large Telescope (VLT).
