Dr. Thomas Krause is a Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, cross-appointed to the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Physics and affiliated with the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy under the Arts & Science school. His expertise lies in non-destructive testing (NDT) of materials using eddy current and ultrasonic techniques. He holds a BSc from the University of Calgary (1987), MSc and PhD from McMaster University (1989, 1992), all in physics.
Dr. Krause has 24 years of research experience in advanced NDT technologies, including pulsed eddy current, remote field eddy current, and ultrasonic testing. His work focuses on laboratory experimentation and computational modeling to enhance defect detection in materials and structures.
Recent research includes crack detection in aircraft structures, stress-induced magnetic effects in steel, and non-contact measurement of molten metal levels in furnaces. He advises graduate students and collaborates on projects involving CANDU reactor components and aerospace composite materials. His publications span journals like IEEE Transactions and Sensors, emphasizing innovative NDT methodologies.
Key contributions include analytical models for eddy current responses, stress-microstructure decoupling in steels, and predictive maintenance algorithms for nuclear systems. He maintains an active lab focused on electromagnetic sensing and structural integrity assessment.
