Thomas Koch is a Lecturer at the Berlin Career College, an institution within the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin). He has held this position since 2013, teaching courses such as 'Raumkomposition' and spatial audio in the Master's programs Sound Studies and Sound Studies and Sonic Arts. Concurrently, he has been a researcher at Fraunhofer HHI since 2009, where he focuses on the development and application of 3D-Audio technologies in immersive video environments.
His research spans immersive auditive media design, multi-channel audio staging, and the simulation of acoustic spaces. Specific projects include the development of miking concepts for Wellenfeld-synthesis, simulation of objects in recorded sound fields, and optimization of portable room acoustics for Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) systems. His work emphasizes the integration of technical innovation with artistic integrity.
As an educator, Koch mentors students in the Master's programs, guiding them in both theoretical and practical aspects of sound studies. He has also contributed to the technical infrastructure of the Projektstudio Potsdam, particularly in optimizing the Neve Logic2 system, which supports advanced audio production.
Koch is affiliated with the Fraunhofer HHI timelab, a research facility dedicated to audiovisual technologies, and collaborates with the Berlin Career College to advance education in sound studies and sonic arts.
