Thomas Jung serves as Head of the Publications Team at the German Institute for Adult Education - Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning (DIE) in Bonn, Germany, a position he has held since 2012. His academic foundation includes:
- Ph.D. in German-Jewish postwar literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- Master of Arts in German Studies and Scandinavian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- German Linguistics and Literature studies at Humboldt University of Berlin
Dr. Jung's research bridges theoretical and practical dimensions of academic communication, focusing on open access business models, digital transformation of book culture, and visual history methodologies in adult education. His work critically examines how publication ecosystems evolve within lifelong learning contexts, particularly through East German historical lenses and contemporary open science frameworks.
Analysis of his 2009-2024 publications reveals three dominant themes: (1) Open access implementation challenges in adult education publishing, (2) Visual and material culture approaches to historical adult education research, and (3) Critical reflections on digital disruption in scholarly communication. These threads consistently connect historical inquiry with forward-looking publication strategies.
No scientific awards or fellowships are documented in available sources.
Information regarding doctoral students supervised or competitive research grants obtained is not publicly accessible.
As leader of DIE's Publications Team, Dr. Jung oversees the institute's entire publication portfolio including the Journal for Continuing Education Research, DIE BRIEF, and book series.
