Thomas J. Withrow is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, affiliated with the Medical Engineering and Discovery Lab (MED). His work focuses on surgical robotics, biomechanics, and cyber-physical systems.

Research Focus: Dr. Withrow contributes to development of autonomous surgical robots and injury prevention strategies through biomechanical research. The MED Lab has filed 59 patents with 30 licensed, and its technologies have reached clinical trials.
Awards & Collaborations: The lab recently received a $12 million ARPA-H award for autonomous surgical systems. Dr. Withrow collaborates with Vanderbilt School of Medicine and participates in the Medical Innovators Development Program (MIDP).
