Thomas J. Derdak is a Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, where he has taught since 1979 during his graduate studies. He holds a B.A. in English Literature and Philosophy from Butler University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago, studying under Paul Ricoeur, Stephen Toulmin, and Alan Donagan. His research focuses on Moral Philosophy, the Ethics of Development, African Philosophy, and Aesthetics.
He co-authored The Ethics of Development: An Introduction (2018) and founded the Global Alliance for Africa, a nonprofit supporting education programs in East and North Africa. His work involves regular travel to Africa for collaborative educational initiatives. He is based in Crown Center 469.
