معرفی
Thomas H. Parker is a Professor of Mathematics at Michigan State University (MSU), specializing in geometric analysis and its connections to mathematical physics. His research integrates ideas from algebraic geometry, differential geometry, topology, and partial differential equations, with a focus on Gromov-Witten invariants using analytic methods.
Education & Background: Parker received his Ph.D. and has held positions including a fellowship at Harvard University and membership at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton.
Teaching: He has taught advanced courses such as Geometry & Topology, Riemannian Geometry, and Linear Algebra. Notable textbooks co-authored include Elementary Mathematics for Teachers and Elementary Geometry for Teachers, designed for elementary/middle school teacher education.
Awards:
- Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2013)
- Frame Teaching Award (MSU, 1998 and 2014)
- Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Award (Harvard, 1982)
Research & Publications: Parker’s work includes foundational papers on Gromov-Witten invariants, symplectic geometry, and geometric analysis. His recent focus involves the Gopakumar-Vafa formula and moduli spaces.
Advising & Mentorship: He has advised numerous Ph.D. students who now hold academic positions globally, including at Notre Dame, Stanford, and Central Florida University.
