Thomas Eggerer is a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich (AdBK Munich), where he leads the Class of Painting and Graphics. He has been a faculty member since 2024, following a significant tenure at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College (2012–2024). He previously taught at the School of Visual Arts and Harvard University, establishing a strong international academic presence.
His research and artistic practice focus on contemporary painting and graphics, exploring the human figure in public space, queer identity, and the interplay between abstraction and representation. He emphasizes drawing, spatial composition, art historical awareness, and interdisciplinary methods in his pedagogy.
Thomas Eggerer’s work has been exhibited internationally, most recently at Capitain Petzel in Berlin (November 2024). His teaching philosophy encourages self-criticism, risk-taking, and contextual relevance, fostering a dynamic dialogue between the academy and broader cultural spheres.
He was a member of the artist collective 'Group Material' and collaborated with Jochen Klein in the 1990s, contributing to discourses on design history and queer public space. His artistic trajectory bridges European and American art scenes.
