Thomas Efferth

Thomas Efferth is a Full Professor and Director of the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. His career spans roles at prestigious institutions including the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), University of Heidelberg, and Technical University Aachen.

• Education: Biology study at Technical University Darmstadt (1980-1986), PhD at DKFZ Heidelberg (1986-1990).

His research focuses on transcriptomic-based network pharmacology, cancer research, drug repurposing, and mechanisms of drug resistance. He also investigates predictive biomarkers for personalized medicine, bioinformatic pharmacology, mental diseases like posttraumatic stress syndrome, exotoxicology of microplastics, and toxicology of synthetic and biogenic drugs.

With over 780 PubMed-listed publications (Hirsch factor: 100), he serves as editor-in-chief of Phytomedicine (impact factor 6.6) and holds editorial roles in multiple pharmaceutical journals. His work has led to 8 patents and a textbook on "Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology" (Springer, 2006).

Scientific awards include the Dr. Wilmar Schwabe Award (2006), CESAR Award (2011), and recognition in the Stanford University worldwide citation ranking (Top 2%, 2020). He has held visiting professorships in the USA and multiple honorary professorships in India and China.
