Thomas Dorka

Thomas Dorka is a Professor of Applied Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science and Natural Sciences, FH Südwestfalen, Iserlohn. He joined the university in February 2025 after a career spanning academia and industry.

• Education: Diplom-Informatik (University of Hamburg); Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Ruhr-Universität Bochum, DFG Transregio 29 project).

His research focuses on software engineering, particularly cloud-native systems, cloud/edge/fog architectures, and the intersection of computer science with mechanical engineering through embedded systems and industrial IoT. He also explores applications in circular economy and control systems.

Prof. Dorka has extensive industry experience, including roles as Senior Software Architect and Director Cloud Solutions at GEA Farm Technologies GmbH (2018–2025), System Architect and Product Manager at Knipp Medien und Kommunikation GmbH (2015–2018), and Senior Software Developer at WPS - Workplace Solutions GmbH (2006–2010). He previously held a research position at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (2011–2015) and worked as a Product Owner at jCatalog Software AG (2010).
