معرفی
Thomas D. Fox is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University, part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). His research focuses on mitochondrial genetics, particularly the expression of mitochondrial DNA and its interaction with nuclear-encoded genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. He holds a B.S. from Cornell University (1971) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Harvard University (1976).
Research Interests:
Dr. Fox's work explores how mitochondrial gene expression is regulated, including mechanisms of protein synthesis, import, and assembly into respiratory chain complexes. His studies highlight the unique genetic systems of mitochondria and their divergence from bacterial ancestors. Recent efforts, though no longer experimental, emphasize the interplay between nuclear and mitochondrial genes in cytochrome c oxidase biogenesis.
Awards & Honors:
- Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (1998)
- SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2003)
- Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2010)
- Louis and Edith Edgerton Career Teaching Award (2013)
- Outstanding Accomplishments in Research Award (CALS, 2015)
Courses Taught:
- BioMG 2800: Lectures in Genetics and Genomics
- BioMG 3800: Advanced Genetics and Genomics
Labs & Collaborations:
Pioneered studies in the Fox Lab, now inactive experimentally, focusing on mitochondrial biogenesis and assembly processes. Collaborations include work on yeast genetics and mitochondrial transformation techniques.
