Thomas Burch is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana State University, along with a M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. His work focuses on innovative engineering solutions, including the development of the RE-InVENT device, which converts CPAP machines into emergency ventilators to address global healthcare challenges. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects such as Auburn's Engineering Without Borders initiative, addressing water infrastructure issues in rural communities in the U.S., Guatemala, and Bolivia.
His academic career includes collaborations with organizations like Huntsville-based IS4S to produce life-saving medical devices. Notable achievements include the successful live-animal testing of the RE-InVENT ventilator and the feature documentary on the project by Alabama Public Television.
