Dr. Thomas Bottelier is a Lecturer in the Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University, specializing in 20th-century international relations and military history. His teaching covers European and international history, conflict analysis, and the politics of violence.
Research interests include the global perspective of the Second World War, focusing on military-industrial cooperation among the Allies (Britain, France, and the United States) and their colonial empires. He explores the intersection of military, diplomatic, and political-economic history, emphasizing alliances, geo-economic competition, and wartime economic aid programs like Lend-Lease.
He earned a PhD in 2019 from King's College London with a thesis on Franco-British-American military-industrial collaboration, and previously held a postdoctoral position at Sciences Po Paris. His current book project, Machine-Age Alliance, expands on this research.
