Thomas Baruzzi is a PhD researcher in Philosophy and Black Male Studies at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. His academic roles include Associate Fellow for AdvanceHE (Tutor), undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in philosophy modules, and 1-on-1 essay writing support through the PPLS Skills Centre. He holds a BA in Physics and Cognitive Science, and an MA in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam.
His research focuses on redefining patriarchy through the lens of women’s sexual governance, linking historical racial violence (e.g., lynching via false rape accusations) to modern sexual consent policies. He also explores silences in the lives of racialized males, applying Black Male Studies to global contexts like Uganda and Italy. His work bridges philosophy, gender studies, and critical race theory to address systemic oppression of marginalized men.
Baruzzi has published articles on Black male vulnerability, sexual power dynamics, and racialized silences, and presented at conferences such as the University of Edinburgh’s PhD Conference (2025) and the OZSW Annual Conference (2023). Beyond academia, he engages in creative projects including music collaborations, poetry, and children’s literature.
