Thomas Altree is a Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University's Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI Sleep Health Clinical Unit), affiliated with the College of Medicine and Public Health. He holds a PhD from Flinders University (2024), FRACP from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2019), and an MBBS from the University of Adelaide (2012). His research focuses on sleep disorders, COPD, and clinical pharmacology, with notable contributions to morphine effects in respiratory patients and sleep apnea treatments. He has received multiple awards including the New Investigator Award at the World Sleep Congress (2023) and the Early Career Researcher Award (2021).
Teaching roles include supervising PhD/Masters/MD students and teaching in the School of Medicine. Clinically, he treats sleep and respiratory disorders at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, Breathe SA, and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a staff specialist. Active in professional engagement, he publishes in high-impact journals like American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Annals of the American Thoracic Society.
