Dr. Thomas Allen is an Associate Professor in Economics at Leicester Castle Business School, part of De Montfort University's Faculty of Business and Law. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester, alongside an MSc, BA in Economics, and a PGCertHE. His research focuses on political economy, pedagogy (especially AI in education), and international trade.
He has taught courses such as Contemporary Microeconomics and The History of Business and Economics. His recent work includes analyzing partisan politics' impact on domestic credit and social media adoption by SMEs in developing nations. He has presented research at conferences like the European Trade Study Group and Fourth Danish International Economics Workshop.
Allen is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has secured internal funding for research on social media usage by firms in developing countries. His interdisciplinary interests span economic history, international trade, and applied pedagogical strategies.
