Thilo Gross is a Professor and Scientific Member of the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) at the University of Oldenburg. His research focuses on understanding complex systems, particularly in biodiversity change, conservation strategies, and ecosystem functions. He holds a BSc in Physics from Portsmouth (1998), a Diplom in Physics from Oldenburg (2001), and a PhD from Oldenburg (2001–2004). Prior roles include PostDoc positions in Potsdam (2004–2005) and Princeton (2006–2007), Junior Research Group Leader at MPI-PKS Dresden (2007–2012), Reader in Engineering Mathematics at Bristol (2012–2018), and Professor of Computer Science at Davis (2018–2019). He joined HIFMB in 2020.
