Thierry Valet is a Visiting Professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and a leading industry-based physicist in spintronics. His work bridges theoretical physics, materials science, and real-world applications, particularly in magnetic recording and memory technologies. He co-developed the Valet-Fert theory of Current Perpendicular to the Plane Giant Magneto Resistance (CPP GMR), foundational for HDD and MRAM technologies.
His research spans spin transport phenomena, magnetic multilayers, and nanoscale magnetism. Recent work focuses on quantum aspects of spintronics, including spin waves in textured ferromagnets and topological spin textures like skyrmions. He has contributed to advancements in spin Hall effects, domain wall dynamics, and spin-engineered memory devices.
Publications reflect interdisciplinary strengths, with topics ranging from semiclassical kinetic theories to industrial PVD process engineering. Valet's contributions have been pivotal in translating theoretical insights into practical applications, impacting storage technologies and nanoelectronics.
