Thierry Poinot

Thierry Poinot is a Full Professor in Automatic Control and Systems at École Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Poitiers (ENSIP), University of Poitiers, where he teaches signal processing, automatic control, and system identification across multiple engineering programs. He serves as Director of the Laboratory of Automatic Control and Systems (LIAS), which maintains dual affiliations with ENSIP in Poitiers and ISAE-ENSMA in Chasseneuil-du-Poitou.

Professor Poinot's research specializes in the modeling and identification of complex dynamic systems governed by ordinary and partial differential equations. His work focuses on accessing physical knowledge of systems or obtaining behavioral models through continuous-time models, linear parameter-varying (LPV) models, fractional models, and multi-dimensional models. Key research areas include continuous-time system identification, nonlinear system identification, output-error algorithms, uncertainty characterization, physical parameter estimation, and fractional-order modeling.

His publications reveal a strong focus on practical applications across multiple domains: battery electrochemical systems (particularly lithium-ion batteries), thermal systems (including diffusion phenomena and heat exchangers), water treatment processes, bird population dynamics modeling, and electrical engineering systems. Recent work demonstrates increasing emphasis on environmental applications and fractional-order modeling techniques applied to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
