Thierry Barbot is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Avignon, affiliated with the Institute of Agrosciences, Environment and Health and the CER Mathematics department. He leads the Mathematics Laboratory (UPR 2151 LMA) and has held administrative roles including Defense and Security Advisor and Director of Studies for L1 Mathematics.
- Education: Doctorate (1992) in Transverse geometry of Anosov flows from ENS Lyon under Etienne Ghys; CNRS research fellow (1994-1997) at University of Burgundy.
His research focuses on Dynamical Systems (particularly Anosov systems) and Lorentzian Geometry, with historical ties to hyperbolic geometry and geometric structures in black holes. He has supervised the CMI program in Mathematics and directed the ACI project 'geometric structures and black holes' (2002-2006).
Professor Barbot contributes to education through teaching roles in Algebra, Probability, Statistics, and specialized mathematics courses for Geography and Chemistry/SVT programs. He has been elected to the CFVU committee at the University of Avignon and participated in creating the 'Math en Jean' initiative (2020-21).
