Dr. Thibault Griseri is a Lecturer in Immunology at Queen Mary University of London, working within the Blizard Institute's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and specifically the Centre for Immunobiology. He contributes to immunology teaching in the Nanchang University Joint Programme and serves as a Problem Based Learning tutor for undergraduate medical students in the MBBS program.
Dr. Griseri completed his PhD in Immunology in France, focusing on NKT cells and type 1 diabetes under Dr. Agnès Lehuen. He then moved to the University of Oxford in 2007 as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Fiona Powrie's laboratory, investigating immune regulation in inflammatory bowel disease with emphasis on Foxp3+ regulatory T cells and granulocytes. In 2013, he joined the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology to work on chronic inflammatory arthritis with Prof Sir Marc Feldmann, where he obtained a Career Development Fellowship from Arthritis Research UK and the Kennedy Trust for Rheumatology Research. He joined Queen Mary University of London in 2021.
His research integrates Immunology and Hematology to investigate how immune responses regulate hematopoiesis during chronic inflammatory conditions, particularly in intestinal and joint diseases. Dr. Griseri examines how inflammatory signals influence hematopoietic stem cells and their differentiation into various lineages, with special focus on myelopoiesis and innate cell responses. His work reveals how granulocytes and inflammatory monocytes/macrophages contribute to tissue damage in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. His research program has evolved from studying type 1 diabetes and NKT cells to investigating the role of hematopoietic stem cells in chronic inflammation.
Dr. Griseri's scientific contributions have been recognized with a Career Development Fellowship funded by Arthritis Research UK (now Versus Arthritis) and the Kennedy Trust for Rheumatology Research. His publication record demonstrates sustained research productivity with significant contributions to understanding immune regulation in inflammatory conditions across multiple high-impact journals including Nature, Immunity, Journal of Experimental Medicine, and Nature Communications.
His work bridges fundamental immunological mechanisms with clinical applications, particularly in understanding how inflammatory cytokines impact hematopoiesis and how this knowledge might inform novel therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory diseases. Future research directions include expanding his studies of myeloid cell regulation to other immune-mediated and infectious diseases.
