Thibault Barbieux

Thibault Barbieux is a Lecturer in the history of law and institutions at the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ), affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Political Science and the Department of Legal History. He serves as Deputy Director of the College of Law and is a member of the Business Law and New Technologies Laboratory (DANTE), CESDIP, PRINTEMPS, and VIP research entities.

• Disciplines taught: History of Institutions (pre-Revolution, Revolution to Second Empire), Legal Ethics, Sources of Law, Private Law
• Research themes: Ancien Régime institutions, private law history, codifications, judicial systems, political and legal thought, maritime law, animal representations

Recent activities include organizing and presenting at international colloquiums on legal philosophy, law of the sea, and institutional reforms. His 2022 thesis on provincial contractualism was awarded the Joinet Prize and published in the IFJD theses collection. Scientific affiliations include the Society for the History of Law (SHD), AFHIP, and AHFD.
