Dr. Therese Elkerbout is a Lecturer in Periodontology at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), a joint institution of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on oral hygiene practices, mouthwash efficacy, and clinical trials in dental healthcare. She holds a PhD (dr.) and MSc, with expertise in preventive dental care and periodontal therapy.
Elkerbout teaches courses such as 'Lijn preventie en behandeling' and has published extensively on topics like oral hygiene behavior post-periodontal therapy, powered toothbrush effectiveness, and chlorhexidine-fluoride mouthwash applications. She contributed to a 2025 study on dental healthcare worker mortality during the pandemic. Ancillary roles include serving as a board member of Stichting Help UGanda since 2023.
Her research collaborations span international projects, including a dental initiative in Nicaraguan orphanages. She actively participates in academic symposiums and public lectures, bridging clinical research with practical dental hygiene practices.
