Theresa Lechner

Theresa Lechner is a Researcher at the University of Würzburg, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics II (Harmonic Analysis) within the Institute of Mathematics. She coordinates the outreach project 'wümax - Würzburg Math Explorers' since 2022 and holds a PhD in Mathematics (2022) from Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, where she also completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees (2011–2017) with a semester abroad in Kraków.

Her research focuses on optimization theory, including non-smooth and non-convex optimization, global optimization, Newton-like methods, and composite optimization problems. She has contributed to advancements in proximal methods and quasi-Newton algorithms for large-scale nonconvex problems.

Lechner actively engages in mathematics education and competitions, organizing the Bavarian State Round of the Mathematical Olympiad and coordinating math workshops for students (e.g., Math-Camp, Math-Seminar). She has taught as a teaching assistant in courses on linear algebra, numerical mathematics, and optimization across multiple semesters.

Her work bridges academic research and public engagement, fostering mathematical talent through outreach initiatives and contributing to the development of efficient optimization algorithms for complex problems.
